James is a multi-instrumentalist from Orkney, Scotland. Specialising in accordion, he has progressed from playing his first concert at the age of 8, on the same day as his first lesson, to 20 years later being highly regarded as one of Orkney’s most accomplished accordionists. He has taught privately and at the Orkney Traditional Music Project for many years and recently at the Curso Internacional de Música Tradicional in Spain. His recent studies on the BA(Hons) Applied music degree course with the University of the Highlands and Islands have enabled him to expand his skills in performance, composition, arranging and recording and using these skills, James has collaborated internationally with musicians from as far as Argentina and Dubai. He has been strongly influenced by Irish, Continental, Asturian, Classical, Rock and Blues in addition to the more traditional scene which have contributed to his own unique and recognised style of playing.
